June 18th, DAVE at Captain Stans - Ed had another gig on Jekyll that came up, so I was solo behind the magic fence! Had a great time. What a great way to start a road trip!
June 19th, NorthStar at Coles Point Tavern - Picked Ed up on Jekyll after the gig at Captain Stan's and we headed to Virginia. We got to the Northern Neck about 10am, where we met Randy at the Backdraft for lunch. It was good to see our friend Jay (owner). Then it was off to Richard and Barbara's where we were staying. After a little confusion on a sound system for the weekend (Randy and Ed took care of it). It was Jason to the rescue! We set up around 3pm. Back to Richard and Barbara's for a quick nap! Woke up to a great lasagna dinner (Thanks Richard and Barbara)! It was the Coles Point Taverns 60th anniversary and it was packed. It was good to see Helen. Sammy wasn't feeling well. Chris and Ann and the wonderful staff took great care of us. We had a blast! Day 2 under our belts.
June 20th, NorthStar at Coles Point Tavern - Day 3 started out with a fantastic breakfast! Once again Richard and Barbara out did themselves! Nap time! Woke up and set up in the back room at the Tavern for Friday nights gig! Once again, thanks to Jason for the upgraded sound system for the bigger room! Relaxed for a little while then it was off to Mike Rowzee's where Randy had put together a cook out for us! Man was that some great barbeque! We had a blast at the Tavern Friday night with special guests Randy and Jason sitting in! Also Matt Bourne singing Wagon Wheel! Good job guy's! Also met Danny Gatton's brother Brent what a nice guy. It was good to share some stories about one of the greatest guitar players in the world.
June 21st, NorthStar at House Party - Day 4, up early in the morning to head to Ed's cabin in Linden! Got a chance to hang out for a bit then it was off to the next adventure! The weather was pretty bad and we pulled the plug on the outside set up just in time. This was the first real unplugged gig I have ever done. Just guitars and stools, it was different! Nils and Holly were great hosts. We met a lot of interesting folks! The gig was in Woodville, Virginia. When we were driving through the town we saw the historic marker with John Jacksons name on it! I then realized we were in Rappahannock County and this was the town John Jackson was from. I was very proud to read about this great son Of Virginia's life! It was a honor to know him!
June 22nd, NorthStar at Thorton River Grill - Day 5, up early and walked to the top of the mountain. Relaxed a little and headed to Sperryville! This is one of my favorite gigs in Virginia. Andy and staff always treat us great! Some of our family was there Dad, Margie, Debbie and Charlie. Had a great evening playing at this great place! Time to head back to the cabin for a day off.
June 23rd, NorthStar at Hardscrabble - Ed is going to mow all day! I got up and walked to the top of the mountain again. Visited and bought some produce from John and Britteney. Then it was off to visit my Mother, Sister and Grandmothers grave sites at The Manassass Battlefield. Headed back for the cabin where I will rest until the evening for our trip back home. The trip home was long and uneventful. What a great road trip looking forward to getting home though!
I've said this before: "If every road trip was like this I would stay on the road. But they're not so I won't". Looking forward to getting back in the studio (Cave Canem) with Barry! Thanks for letting me live my dream! Stop texting, start talking! Keepin' It Real! -David
see you down the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
