Thursday, November 3, 2011

October 25th, Dave @ The World Famous Oasis - I had a blast in the land of 44 tv's.  Good listening crowd!  That's not easy to get, with so much going on!  Thanks Katie and staff!

October 27th - Eclipse - More mixing on my new cd "Hopeless Romantic".

PM, Dave @ The Corner Bar - It started out a little slow but kicked into gear pretty quick.  Thanks Kruz, good job!  Thanks Nick, Nanna and Chris you guys are the best!

October 28th and 29th, Dave @ SeaJay's - This was maybe my best 2 days ever at SeaJay's.  Met a lot of new folks.  Tried some new music.  It was just a great weekend overall! Thanks Big Ed and Diane for letting me hang out.  Thanks Tommy and staff!

October 31th, Dave @ Harry's - I'm batting around 500 for this gig.  It looked like I was going to go home again (rain) but it cleared up.  A little cold, but had a great crowd!  Met a guy from Firefall (Bob, i think).  He was just married that day! He also knew Barry Dunaway! Also Daryl Wise stopped by.  What a great singer/ songwriter he is! Great staff, great night! Thanks everyone!

October 31st, The Hackers @ Hurricane Patty's - It was Halloween.  We were lucky to have the Johnston brothers with us! There were some great moments!  It was a pleasure to play with this group of guys.  Thanks for coming out everyone!

Normally I don't listen much to my CD's after I've recorded them.  I always seem to be moving on to the next project.  Yesterday, however, I sat and listened to "Believe These Eyes" and my new CD "Hopeless Romantic" uninterrupted, and I really enjoyed it.  I am so lucky and proud to be able to write music and then have all you great players give a little of yourselves to my songs.  I am ready to start on the next one, untitled, at this time,  while Ed and myself work to finish "Keepin' It Real" our next effort! Thanks for letting me live my dream!

One last note,  i would be remiss if I didn't mention the fact that it had to be Jim Dunaway who helped those Cards win The Series that way.  Keepin' It Real - David

see you down the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Monday, October 24, 2011

October 14th,  Dave @ SeaJay's- It was a great night! I was running a little late. I had to check on our campsite for next weekend.  Everything was already arranged. Thanks Pete!  Tommy looked like he needed someone to talk to but it was so busy we didn't get the chance.  Hopefully next week!  Good start for the road trip!

October 15th, Northstar @ Creeky's party- We headed up to Virginia after Fridays gig! The wives were worried because they were'nt going and feared the old dogs couldn't pule off a road trip on their own.  They were wrong.  It wasn't easy but we made it! Frankie was under the weather and didn't make this gig.  We hope he feels better.  It's always great to be in the Northern Neck, it's like a home coming. We had River Rock do a few tunes unplugged  between our sets (Jason and Hella).  They did about 5 of their originals and sounded great!  This group has come a long way in the recent months.  The party was a great sucess and Creeky said "one more" so hope to see you guys next year!  After the show Ed , Randy and myself went to AC's.  First for a dirty bongwater shot (not bad). and then went by the Tavern to see a band (Red Line Radio).  They were a good cover band and did some different songs, as the keyboard player put it to me, "We have a singer that can sing the stuff so we do it".  I enjoyed listening to their set but left with everyone singing jump (including my partner Ed).  Honestly, I enjoyed River Rock's original more.  Headed back to the house to finish my chicken I bought at the Jack Rabbit. Fun night!

October 16th, AC's - Had breakfast with Randy and started for the mountains!  Also talked to Scott, I think Northstar and The Big Lonesome Show will be back in the later part of April! I can't wait!

October 16th, NorthStar @ The Thorton River Grille - After stopping by the cabin for a bit and watching the Redskins loose another one, we headed to Sperryville for our next gig.  Andy, Dana and Wennie are great people.  This is a great place, they make you feel special.  Both Ed and myself were feeling a little under the weather but had a good show!

October 17th and 18th - We planned a 2 day rest before we headed back to Georgia.  It was nice, went to  visit my families grave sites on the Mannassas Battlefield where someday I will rest!  Feeling sick but it's good to just relax a bit.

October 19th NorthStar @ Captain Stan's - It was a better drive back to Georgia than the trip up to Virginia.  We made better time so I dropped Ed off at Jekyll Island and then headed to the gig.  Ed met me a little later behind the magic fence.  These are special people, like Stan said. we are family (what a great feeling).  This is a gig I look forward to no mater what the weather! Thanks stan and staff your the best!

October 20th - Ocean Grove Camp Ground - Pulled the camper over for a test run.  Everything went good!  It was good to see the lovely Linda and Kevin Finch. I got Scott (Yoko Says No) a place there next week.

October 20th, Dave @ The Corner Bar- It's good to be home and it was a good night to play!  Had a nice crowd that was ready to listen.  It doesn't get much better than this!  Kruz did a nice job! Nanna sang good! Everything was beautiful in it's own way! Thanks Pat, Nick and staff!

October 21st - Jekyll Island Camp Ground -  This will be our home for the next 2 days. The trip went great! We got set up then I went to work. We were joined by my daughter Brianna and her boyfriend Tim.

October 21st, Dave @ SeaJay's - It was cold but it was busy! Did get a chance to talk with Tommy.  He's a good guy! Made some new friends.  That's what it is all about!

October 22nd, NorthStar with Wayne Johnston @ Latitude 31 - This is also another gig Frankie didn't make. He was once again under the weather.  We pray the doctors figure out what is happening with our friend! We all had a blast, great crowd!  Great fun! Thanks Wayne you are the man!

October 23rd, Dave @ Zaharias - It was a little colder than I hoped for by starting time. We had a few brave souls hang out as long as they could.  AT and Theresa and a handful of Marines made it to the end. Thank you guys and thanks to Angelica for letting me play my music! This is a great place! Thanks Angelica and staff!

This was kind of a test being sick for most of the gigs, but everyone that was a part of the gigs helped me through it.  To everyone new I met and to all my friends that support me thanks for letting me live my dream! Keepin' It Real -David

see you down the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Monday, August 29th, The Hacker's at Hurricane Patty's - Great night! When we play music it's fun!  Some of the other things that go on make it a little tough for me (the "goofing" around).  Chris said it himself when trying to listen to Dan's recording from the night.  He said "Man, I wish we would just play the song, too much goofing off".  I agree whole heartedly, and wish it could be different.  Although, I can put up with it and still enjoy it once a month.  Thanks everyone for coming out!  And thanks to the great staff at Hurricane Patty's!  See you next month.

Tuesday, August 30th, Dave @ The World Famous Oasis - Splash had a cancellation and asked me if I could cover it for him.  A little slow, but had a good time.  Thanks to those who showed up.

Wednesday, August 31st, NorthStar @ Zachry's - It was a slow Wednesday, but had fun with Ed.  This is a great gig.  I can't wait for it to pick-up.  Thanks Barbara, DJ and staff!

Thursday, September 1st, Dave @ The Corner Bar - What a great send off.  It was me, Kruz and Trudy for the better part of an hour.  Then the place got real crowed.  It was a blast!  Thanks Nick and staff!

Friday, September 2nd, The Big Lonesome @ The Dockside - My good friend Cecil showed up along with many others.  The Big Lonesome began the show and Mr. Natural closed it out.  We all played well and the owner wants us back!  NorthStar, The Big Lonesome and Mr. Natural!  Thanks Randy!!!

Saturday & Sunday, September 3rd and 4th, The Big Lonesome Show @ Coles Point Tavern - There's not many places like the Northern Neck of Virginia around.  Over the years we've met so many special people, Scott and Carla being two of them.  Thanks for taking such good care of us.  I can't wait to get back.  I had a blast playing with everyone. Thanks Randy for the great cookout at the house on Saturday (Steaks, lobster tails, and all the fixins and especially the crabs for Theresa).  Sunday Jason and Joy put out a spread for us at their place twice in one day (Steaks, Chicken, Hotdogs and too many other things to mention, but the most important were the "bbq ribs" for you know who)!  Thanks Jason and Joy!  Thanks Randy Watts, it would not be possible without you.

Sunday, September 5th, The Big Lonesome Show @ AC's - I am wore out!  But to get together with this bunch one more time, I wouldn't miss it.  It was a nice day.  Lots of people, a lot of fun!  And the "S-P-R-E-A-D" that Chris put out for us after the show cannot go without mentioning.  It was unbelievable!  Thanks Chris and staff!  And once again, (even though he did not make it) Thanks Randy for everything!

Monday, September 6th, The ride home went good.  Jay "you da man".

I'm having so much fun this year!  I'm writing a lot and hanging out with a great bunch of people!  Thanks all of you for letting me live my dream!!!

DON'T FORGET:  NorthStar at Zaharias, Monday September 19th, 6-9pm and The Big Lonesome tomorrow night (Monday, September 12th) 6pm @ Hurricane Patty's

Wednesday, August 24th, AM Eclipse - Worked on parts on a few tunes "Hopeless Romantic".  It's getting closer.  I think I will have The Big Lonesome do the background vocals, then hopefully I'll finally be able to finish this one up. and start on #3.

Wednesday, August 17th, NorthStar @ Captain Stan's - It was a good night behind the magic fence.  The Captain was a little off his game and the place looks to him to control the evening.  It was still a good night.  Ed seemed tired but hung in there like a pro.  Good job everybody, see you next time!

Friday, August 5th, NorthStar @ Seajay's Benefit for Billy and Ron - Not a huge turn out but it was great to see Jim and Sheryl show up from St. Augustine.  We raised money for the Billy and Ron who were injured in a bad car accident and signed cards for both.  Hope it helps!

Sunday, August 7th, Dave solo at Zaharias - Had a rain out, but had fun anyway.  Hung out for a while with Renee and Bruce, Kevin and Claudia, Dave and Jim.  If you made an attempt to come out, I apologize.  Mother nature rules the outside gigs!

Monday, August 8th, The Big Lonesome @ Hurricane Patty's - What a great night!  We still didn't have the whole band there, but Ed and Wayne more than held down the solo's.  Everyone played hard.  This is a fun band.  We added a new song that Wayne wrote "Sweet River Girl".  It's a perfect fit for The Big Lonesome.  I'm excited about the Virginia trip in September.  Thanks everyone at Hurricane Patty's, you all were great!

It was a great week.  I'm looking forward to my next adventure!  Thanks everyone for your support!  Keepin' It Real - David

July 25th, The Hackers at Hurricane Patty's - The gig went great.  Had a lot of fun.  Looking forward to The Big Lonesome gig here on August 8th.

July 26th, Dave at The World Famous Oasis - One of my best nights ever!  Sometimes this can be a challenging room.  I tried a few new ideas that seemed to work out okay.  Can't wait to try it with NorthStar.

July 27th, NorthStar at Rambler's - The gig was cancelled so we just headed north a little earlier than expected.  We later received an apology for the mix up, so if Ed says it's okay, we may try to play there again someday.

July 28th - We arrived in the Northern Neck early AM.  It's great to be back in my home state.  We lost the new cruise control on the way out of Darien, still not a bad ride.  We're just going to relax today and maybe have dinner and a few beers with Randy.

July 29th, NorthStar @ Coles Point Tavern - We opened for The Honkie Tonk Heroes.  Met Andrey, Dean and Keith Horne (he played with my hero Waylan Jennings) and Faron and his dad Gary.  They sounded great!  We did a good show too, I thought.  It was good to play to a crowd that doesn't know what to expect.  Ed and I hung around for a bit and then went and picked up POA (Plant of the Abts) from Richmond Airport.  By the way, Frankie joined us for the show and kicked ass. Thanks Frankie.

July 30th, The Mini Palooza at Coles Point - This was a special day!  Randy did a fantastic job putting this show together.  It was a blast!  Met so many players that day that I can't remember them all, but what a great bunch of artists Randy brought together.  Dean, Keith and Andrey had a 3 piece band that sounded great.  My cousin Jason had his new group "River Rock", they kicked it.  The Gypys Sons, great band, nice bunch of guys.  And Jimbo Manion sounded great and what a great guy!  Jeff an old friend was playing with him.  We had so many people come out to see us.  I thank each and everyone of you.  Donna Britton and her husband Bill from Shadow Mountain Music in Nashville(my pubishers)  Also Tommy from Sony Pictures in Nashville, who's been trying to get some of our music out there.  Thanks to Matt Abts who sat in with us for a few songs and really kicked some ass!  You are a real pro brother!  Finally, Plant of the Abts, Matt, Jorgen and T-Bone, tore it up.  These guys are a treat to watch and listen to.  Thanks POA for a great show.  It was a pleasure to meet T-Bone. I had met Jorgen before with "The Mule".  And thanks you guys for listening to a few cuts from my new CD, "Hopeless Romantic".  The whole day was a blast!

July 31st, NorthStar at The Thorton River Grille - Just when we thought it was over, we did a show with Steve Hageborn (Laughing Man).  What an interesting character and a great player and performer.  We had a blast Andy.  thanks for putting this together.

This is the kind of week you dream of.  Playing music with your friends.  Meeting people of like minds.  This is how I knew it should be.  I'm glad I let this happen!  Looking forward to next week.  I learned that the Levi Lowery show we were going to play has been cancelled.  I hope the folks that were in the accident will be okay.  We don't have anymore info as of now.  Thanks everybody!  Keepin' It Real - David

see you down the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tuesday, July 26, 2011

Monday, July 18th - NorthStar at The World Famous Oasis was a great gig!  Brady Green showed up.  We talked about getting together and doing some playing.  Joe said we could do it at his house.  Maybe get a little house party going.  The Nicks brothers are in town and said they'd also see me on Thursday to hear some of my new songs (I can't wait).  Sharon Holland and her family showed up (still working on getting me and John Prine together (that would be a dream come true).  There is a lot of positive energy floating around me, it feels good!!!!!

Wednesday, July 20th, NorthStar at Zachry's - I think we have our set list for Virginia show ready.  We've one more run through Wednesday in Brunswick.  This was a great gig, a lot better than the week before.  Had fun playing with my brother.  Reggie Blue stopped by.

Thursday, July 21st @ Eclipse - We'll be mixing " Is This Love Real" today.  That leaves "Yankee Lady" and background vocals, then finally it will be done.  Thanks for hanging in there with me.  I'm going to try something different for the next one.

Thursday, PM, Dave @ The Corner Bar - Was a great time.  Not real crowed but a great bunch.  Kruz sounded good.  The Nicks brothers were down.  Just a nice evening overall.  Thanks again Nick and Nanna and Cheyenne.

Friday and Saturday, July 22 & 23rd, Dave @ SeaJay's - It was a little slow and  real hot on Friday.  By the time a breeze kicked up it was time to stop.  Saturday was fantastic.  CJ, the owner was there and we got a chance to talk.   I haven't seen him in a long time.  It was well worth the trip.  Thanks to all the folks that gave the ole singer, songwriter a listen!

Sunday, July 24th, Dave @ Zaharias - The weather looked a little threatening, but just a couple of sprinkles (not that we don't need the rain).  Had a good time.  Met some folks that want to bring "NorthStar" or "Dave" to Gainesville.  Thanks Angelica and staff!

It was a good week for music though very hot!  Looking forward to the Virginia trip this week.  Thanks for supporting my music and for also supporting NorthStar and our music!  Thanks for letting me live my dream.  Keepin' It Real - David

see you down the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

7-11 The Big Lonesome @ Hurricane Patty's - I had a blast!  Everyone did a great job! This is a positive experience that I'm proud to be a part of.  The originals went great.  We still have work to do on them, but with the little time we've spent on them, I think they sounded pretty darn good.  We missed Bob and Robin, but Ed and Wayne really stepped up to the plate.  It was good to see all the support and we promise to keep working hard to create new music for you all.  Thanks Barry Dunaway (RPM, Those Guys), it's always great to see you my friend.

7-13 NorthStar @ Zachry's - The wasn't much of a crowd, but what great people to work for.  It was good to get together with Ed.  We started running over songs we want to do for the show with Planet of the Abts at the end of the month.  Thanks Barbara and DJ you're the best!

7-14 Dave@ The Corner Bar - The best night yet! Kruz did a great job.  Matt from the show "Swords Life on the Line" stopped by and picked up a couple of t-shirts, one NorthStar and one Just Dave that he said he'd wear on the show.  We'll see what happens.

I have a few days off and I plan to get a lot of things done around the house, but will probably only get half completed.  We have a birthday dinner with Brianna.  Life is good, excited about Virginia and my next gig with Ed at Oasis on Monday.  Thanks for letting me live my dream!  Keepin' It Real - David

6-28-11 Just Dave @ The World Famous Oasis - My birthday night.  Had a lot of fun.  I think I have a plan for the land of the TVs.  It seems to be working out.  Just have to figure out how to do it for 4 1/2 hours.  I will and I know NorthStar will.  Thanks Splash and the rest of the gang for treating me so good.

6-29-11 Just Dave @ Harry's - It was a rain out.  They bought me a nice dinner though.

6-30-11 Eclipse - Had Rusty Springfield in to add bass on "Music Man" for  NorthStar's CD "Keepin' It Real".  Had Mike Houpt playing organ on "What Would You Do" for my CD "Hopeless Romantic".

Just Dave @ The Corner Bar - Great night!  Kruz did a great job!  Had a blast!  Thanks Nick and Nanna.

Gregg's new tune.  "Juke Joint Down on the River" and Wayne's " Cold Day In Hell" were  added to the set list.  I can't wait to get together with the boys on July 11th at Hurricane Patty's.  Check it out 6-10pm.

7-2-11 Just Dave @ SeaJay's - Had a great night until about 9:30 pm, the mosquitos came in and ran everyone but my wife off the porch.  I knew she loved me, but not that much.  Thanks, Theresa, Tommy and staff.

7-3-11 Just Dave @ Latitude 31 - It was a beautiful day.  Great breeze, great crowd, great staff.

I'm surrounded by positive people and it is so inspiring.  Can't wait to do more work on the two new CD's ("Hopeless Romantic" and "Keepin' It Real).  I met one of Ed's singer-songwriter friends Hugo Duarte.  What a special guy!  We talked about song writing and showed each other some tunes.  He told me he though Ed was a special spirit and that he felt that way about Gregg when he met him (i feel the same).  I'm going to turn him on to the Berardo's (who he's heard about) and hopefully we'll get together in the future.  Man, what a great weekend!  "Keepin' It Real" - David

6-21 A day off.  Went and saw Jim Dunaway and had lunch with my Dad.

6-22 NorthStar @ Captain Stan's - It wasn't packed behind the magic fence but it sure was a good time.  The smoke was pretty bad,  Man, we need rain.  See you guys on Friday.  Thanks Captain Stan and staff you're the best!

6-23 Eclipse - Worked on "Is This Love Real", "Goodbye Danny" and "Yesterday Is Gone".  I only  have a little time each week, an hour or two to get things done.  You spend wasted time trying to remember what you did.  I will do things differently for my next effort.

PM, JUST DAVE @The Corner Bar - What a great night! Not many people but still fun.  Kruz sounded good and I had two friends show up.  Lou and Al Johnson.  I spent some years playing with Al in The North Star Band.  He got up and played Redneck Hippie, what a blast from the past!  Lou, his son played one of his songs, I don't remember the name but I'm going to download his new CD.  He, like his Dad is very talented and is moving to Nashville.  Good Luck Lou!!  Another one of my heroes, my Dad, was there.  I must have done pretty good, he stayed the whole evening (that hasn't happened since the 70's).  Thanks Nick and Nanna, see you guys next week.

6-24 NorthStar @ Captain Stan's - We were behind the magic fence again.  What a night!  It might have been the best night Ed and myself have played together in a long time.  Not that it isn't fun every night, but this was special.  Thanks Stan and staff!

Monday, 6/13 - The Big Lonesome had a rehearsal.  Worked on a couple of Wayne's tunes and another that Gregg wrote the words for.  Frankie couldn't be there, but we got some stuff done anyway.  Bob is sounding better and better.  He's a very talented player.  Practice next week then a gig in Georgia.

Tuesday, 6/14 - A great night in the land of 44 TV's (The World Famous Oasis).  I had a good time and look forward to being back here on my birthday, June 28th.  Talked with Greg, the owner a little.  I might start doing a couple of other things there.  I'll keep you posted.  Thanks Lisa, Drews and Amy for taking such good care of me.

Wednesday, 6/15 - Sat down with Jim Stafford at Eclipse and fixed a couple of parts in a few tracks (Love's Strange and On The Road To Find Out).  I'm getting closer each trip to completion.  Next CD I'm going to cut all at once.  This is the hardest way to make a CD (a little at a time), but it will be done as soon  as humanly possible.  Thanks for your patience.

PM - I got a little overheated loading the equipment in at Captain Stan's.  Felt a little strange all night!  Ed held it together and it tuned out to be a great night!  Thanks Stan, Beth and staff, you guys make our trip behind the magic fence very enjoyable.

Thursday 6/16 - Had a nice evening at The Corner Bar.  Not a real big crowd but respectable.  Gregg Chirico (Mr Natural and The Big Lonesome) stopped by.  I'll see him next Monday at rehearsal.  Thanks Nick and Nanna, you guys are the best.  Also we'll be changing the time on Thursday's gig to 6-9pm.  See you there!!!!

Friday 6/17 - Frankie was with NorthStar (Ed and myself) tonight at Latitude 31.  The weather looked pretty bad when we started, but there were a lot of people so we decided to chance it.  We got a couple of hours in, then the shit hit the fan.  What a storm!  Thank goodness we didn't lose any equipment.  I would like to thank Peggy and her friends for coming out (South Caroline and Indiana).  They heard me about 6 months ago on the Island and came back!  Thanks also to Theresa and staff for taking such good care of us.

6-18, SeaJay's - It's always good to play this gig.  Tonight was as good as it gets.  Had a great crowd and met some great people.  I got to play a lot of my songs.  That really makes it special!  Thanks Tommy and staff you guys are the best!

Had a fantastic week!  Looking forward to getting together with The Big Lonesome on Monday.  I'm going to check out a couple of new rooms today.  Not real busy at the beginning of the week so I'll try to get into the studio a couple of times.  But then have a twelve day run...playing every night.  I'm excited, Matt Abts (Planet of the Abts, Government Mule) is bringing his band to our show in Virginia.  He has also requested to sit in with NorthStar (Ed, Frankie and myself), can't wait!  Thanks everyone for letting me live my dream!  Keepin' It Real - David

see you down the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tuesday, June 14, 2011

Wednesday, June 8, NorthStar @ The World Famous Oasis - We had a great night in the land of 44 TV's.  It was good to get back with Ed and play some.  Thanks to the staff at Oasis, you guys are great.

Thursday, June 9, Just Dave @ The Corner Bar - They made two changes while I was away and I made it through both so far, because of you guys.  It was not a great night as far as the crowd goes, but it was a fun night playing.  Thanks Kruz, you're sounding better and better.  Also thanks Nick and Nanna for taking good care of me.

Friday, June 10, Just Dave @ SeaJay's - It started out a little crazy, but it was cookin' by the end.  Made a couple of new friends.  Played a few tunes I don't normally do. Got together with Ed and we worked on "Midnight Blue", "Why Do People Go On Fightin'" from our "My Bird Still Ain't Talkin'" CD.  Also "Fast As The Wind" from our new CD "Keepin' It Real".  On my way home I stopped by Marti Gras and saw "Those Guys" minus Walt.  Chris was doing a good job, Barry sounded good as always, and so did the drummer (not sure of his name).  I couldn't hear the vocals so I had to leave after a couple tunes.  If you can't hear the words its not a song to me.  Thats why they are doing what they do and I'm doing what I do.  Good music though!

Saturday, June 11, Day off - Yard work, painting and then relax.

Sunday, June 12, Just Dave @ Zaharias - It was nice under the pavilion.  Hot outside, but a nice breeze blowing through.  I hope that lasts all summer.  I had a blast playing.  Todd, one of my musician friends from Virginia stopped by.  Thanks Angelica and staff, you're the best!

It's been a fun week.  I made some new friends, got to play with brother Ed (NorthStar), worked up a new original "Fast As The Wind".  This week is going to be busy, but looks like it could be fun too.  I will be in the studio at least one day.  Frankie will be joining us on Friday on Jekyll Island (NorthStar).  The Big Lonesome is getting together to work on 3 of Wayne's tunes.  Thanks for letting me live my dream.  "Keepin' It Real" - David

Tuesday, May 31, Travel Day - The drive north was pretty uneventful.  Had a problem finding a room when we decided to stop for the night.  We finally got one in Petersburg, VA.  Headed further north in the AM and picked Eddie and Kristen up at Dulles, then headed to the cabin in the mountains.  Hurray!!!!

Wednesday, June 1, NorthStar @ Lucky Star Lounge in Front Royal, VA - Only a few people were in the place while we were setting up.  We had a couple of beers and got up to do our job.  By the time we were tuned up to play, there was a nice crowd.  I miss and love my home state and it's so good to see my people getting into the music we are doing.  I would like to thank Trevor, Liz and Tim for taking great care of us.

Thursday, June 2, The Cabin @Hardscrabble - Had the day off.  Drank a few beers, helped Ed with the mowing and just enjoyed being up in the mountains.  Started getting an idea for a new song.

Friday, June 3, NorthStar @ Giuseppe's, Haymarket, VA - We didn't have our best night playing (we tried a new effect on the monitors and it didn't really work for us), but what a great crowd.  My good friends Pat and Sandra Markham stopped by.  My Dad, my uncles and aunts, Randy, Jason, Rev. Jim Jones and a heap of other special people.  Randy hung out with us for a couple of days.  Can't wait to play his concert in July.  Frankie Urzetta has added on for this show.  Denis and Ray from Kill Devil (Phoenix Project) came by and sat in.  Man, this was my  favorite band when I was living up in Virginia.  I am so proud they stopped by.  We talked about doing some shows together.  I hope that works out.  Last of all the great people at Giuseppe's, Joe, Josie and staff.  Thanks for a great night!  Happy Birthday Fred and Eddo (6/2)!!!

Saturday, June 4, NorthStar @ Pete's Party - Pete, Eddie's Uncle put on a hell of a house party up on top of the Hidden Valley Mountain.  We shared the night with Eddie's Uncle Mike  (the old coyote) and his wife Debbie.  Had a blast!  I think it will really take off in the future, Pete was a great host.  Thanks to the folks who showed up.  We had a great time!

Sunday, June 5, Just Dave @ The Gray House Party, RI - What a great time Marc and Chris did a great job.  This was a great experience for me.  To play for a group of people that want to hear what you have to say is very intense.  I love it!  At home I have great friends that keep pushing me to keep writing and playing my music.  It's times like this day that it pays off.  This is what it's all about.  I look forward to the chance to do this again.  Thanks Marc and Chris, you are my heros.  Also, thanks Andrew you did a great job and you were a great host.

I'm proud to be a singer, songwriter. I'm going to write and play my music for as many people as I can in the years to come.  Thanks Ed (NorthStar) for your friendship and your great playing and singing.  You're an inspiration to me every time I sit down to play next to you.  Thanks to every one else who supports my music.  You are a big part of helping me live my dream.  "Keepin' It Real" - David

see you down the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sunday, May 22, Just Dave @ Zaharias - What a great afternoon.  I'll be doing some more gigs here in the future.  A great place, great people.  Thanks Angelica, Holly and staff.

Monday, May 23 Rehearsal with The Big Lonesome - Productive rehersal, we started a new tune that Gregg and Wayne wrote about our last road trip to Virginia "Juke Joint Down on The River".  It sounds great.  I'm excited about it.  I also jammed with our new guitar player Bob.  What a monster.  Robin's work driving a truck keeps him real busy.  He'll add on to some of our gigs but can't commit to a full schedule.  Welcome aboard Bob!  Good luck Robin!

Wednesday, May 25 AM, Eclipse - Jim and I started mixing "Love's Strange".  I'm excited we're closing in on "Hopeless Romantic".  Jim Carrick stopped by and heard the cut we were working on and gave me a thumbs up.

PM,  NorthStar @ Zachry's - We had a pretty good crowd early but it died off quick.  One of Ed's students sat in on a couple of tunes (Iris), she did a good job.

Thursday, May 26, Just Dave @ The Corner Bar - It was an okay evening, not real busy.  There was a couple of good things to come out of the evening though.  Kruz sounded good! And my good friend and old band mate Brady Green stopped in for a bit.  I really was surprised!  This man is one of the best players I have had the pleasure to know.  I was so proud to have him sitting in the room.  Thanks Brady. Thanks everyone for coming out.

Friday, May 27, NorthStar @ Latitude 31 -  We had a blast.  Got a little rain on the very last song and got everything packed away without damage.

Saturday, May 28, Just Dave @ Rah Bar - It was a nice afternoon.  There was a breeze blowing.  There were a lot of people there.  Made some new friends.  Thanks Ed and Kristen for being great host's to Theresa, Penny Lane and myself.  I am proud to say I know and play with you Ed.  Brady called while we were on our way home to say how much he liked my "Believe These Eyes", CD.  It was so good to see him on Thursday at The Corner Bar.  He says we'll be seeing more of him.  That's good news!  We also crossed paths with Wayne Johnston on our way home.  We both pulled into the Pilot for gas.  It's good to see my fellow band mate "The Big Lonesome".  I hope his gig went well at SeaJay's.

Monday, May 30 (Memorial Day) The Hacker's @ Hurricane Pattys - What a great time.  Walt had the night off and Kurt Johnston stepped in.  Kurt, you did a great job!  It was just one of those nights.  Thanks to everyone on stage, you played your hearts out.  Thanks everyone for supporting The Hacker's.  See you next month.

I will be out of town this week, traveling to gigs in Virginia and Rhode Island.  When I get back I'll have a new CD.  David Watt Besley "Those Years".  It's a double CD that has the 4 Those Guys CD's I sang, played on and wrote or co-wrote the songs for (digitally re-mastered).  There are 42 tracks.  I'll be selling them for $15 at gigs.  $20 by mail (includes shipping).  I'm going to concentrate on finishing my new solo CD "Hopeless Romantic" and the NorthStar CD "Keepin' It Real".  I'm also looking forward to getting into the studio with "The Big Lonesome".  We are close to having enough songs to complete a CD.  Wayne will be introducing 3 of his songs next rehearsal.  I heard them and they're great!  We'll be heading up the coast a few times this year to Virginia.  If you have any stopping points you would like to us to play at along the way, please contact us at 912-635-2924 or contact us at acemusicians.com.  Thanks for letting us live our dream.  Keepin' It Real - David, NorthStar and The Big Lonesome

Also on Thursday, June 2, singer, songwriter, Darryl Wise will be playing in my spot at The Corner Bar from 5-8pm.  Stop by and check him out!

see you down the road

A new date just added for JUST DAVE tomorrow Sunday (5/22) 4-7pm at Zaharias, Somewhere Else on A1A Again!

5-17 Cuban Corner - Went to say goodbye to Curtis Hands.  There were a lot of people there.  Some I haven't seen for awhile.  He was a good man and he'll be missed.  If you can't stop doing what you are doing please at least be as careful as you can be.  I don't want to cry another tear for such a senseless loss.  Good luck on your next adventure Curtis!

5-18 Eclipse - Jim and I worked on "On The Road to Find Out".  I added a guitar part and we cleaned it up some.  Also mixed the intro that I wrote for "One The Road To Find Out".

5-19 Captain Stan's - What a great night!  With all the worries I had today, I was frazzled to say the least!  This was a fantastic night.  There was a great crowd.  To have the owners sit and listen all night is unbelievable.  We all sat down and had a nice steak dinner at the end of the gig.  Booked some more dates, what a great place!  Thanks Stan and everyone, you're the best!

5-19 Another good night! This is my last gig of the week.  The next thing is practice with "The Big Lonesome" on Monday.  I will get some work done around the house and get some of my music projects  finished, or as close to done as possible.  Thanks Mike and Nick you guys are great!  Thanks Kruz for helping out!  It was great to talk to Pat Murphy.  I hung around for a few tunes, he still sounds great!

I am sad for everyone that Finnegan's Wake closed.  I really enjoyed playing there and hanging with all the great people who worked there.  I'll miss you all and only wish the best for you all.  Thanks Finnegan's Wake, see you down the road.  Thanks for letting me live my dream! "Keepin' It Real" - David

see you down the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Monday, 5/8, Breakfast at Tammy's - Treated Trudy to breakfast for a belated birthday present.  Kruz was there too!

Tuesday, 5/10 JUST DAVE @ Harry's - I still can't get used to taking so many breaks.  Had a good time though.  See you guys June 29th (Wednesday).  Did "Wagon Wheel" for Roy a musician friend I met from South Carolina (Charleston).  I might be doing something in Orlando with him in the future.  Thanks Rob Peck and the staff at Harry's!

Wednesday, 5/11 NORTHSTAR @ Oasis - Actually turned out to be a pretty nice gig.  It was good to hang out and play with my brother Ed.  Booked a bunch more dates, so NorthStar and myself will be around at least once a month.  Thanks Splash and staff.

Thursday, 5/12 AM Eclipse - We have a couple of hours this morning.  One hour Ed is planning to put mandolin on " With You/Without You"  and "Fast As The Wind".  Also going to bring vocals up on "Living In My Head".  The second hour I am going to put a guitar part on "Hopeless Romantic" and then do some mixing.  If we get to that today we are doing good!

PM, JUST DAVE @ The Corner Bar, Wasn't as crowded as normal but had a great bunch!  Did my 2 new tunes.  "Evil People" and " The Ice Has Broken".  Also I played "Wagon Wheel" for Thom since he gave me the CD with a bunch of cool tunes (that one included).  Pat Murphy and his band went on after me.  I had to be in Georgia the next day so I couldn't hang out.  I enjoyed talking with Pat and the guys.  Pat was one of the first people I met when I first came to St. Augustine.  First, Bob Patterson, Jim Carick, Pat Murphy, Don Dunaway and Gamble Rogers.  I think I might hang out a bit next week and listen.  Thanks Mike, Nick, Carrie and staff.

Friday, 5/13 NORTHSTAR @ Zachry's - We played outside.  It was a little buggy and it was raining ashes from the fire.  Besides that it was a good gig.  Good job Ed!  Thanks to Barbara and staff.

Saturday, 5/14 JUST DAVE @ SeaJay's - It was a little slow but made some new friends.  Ed had 2 gigs but was able to stop by for a minute.  That meant a lot to me.  Had a good time.  Thanks Tommy and staff.

Sunday, 5/15 JUST DAVE @ Finnegan's Wake - Had a good crowd!  It looks like it's catching on "Somewhere on A1A"!  Packed up quick and went and played a few with The Hacker's (wedding).  That was fun too!

Tuesday we are going to get together and say goodbye to our friend Curtis.  It's such a shame.  Please take care of yourselves, I want everyone to be around for a long time!  Thanks for letting me live my dream!  Keepin' It Real - David

see you down the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tuesday, May 10, 2011

Wednesday, 5/4 Went down to Hurricane Patty's to drop off a speaker to Gregg (Chirioke) and I saw Pat Waylon.  He looked great considering his injuries.  I couldn't believe he was already on his feet (or his foot as he put it).  My prayers were answered.  Pat looks like he's going to be okay!

Thursday, 5/5 JUST DAVE @ The Corner Bar - Had a great night!  Kruz did his mini set and sounded good also!  This is a good listening room.  I'm glad Thom and Elizabeth turned me on to this place.  Also, saw Jim Essery, hadn't seen him in ages.  Tried out my new tune "Evil People". It's coming around.

Friday, 5/6 early PM Dave and Eddie @ Eclipse - Ed and myself were in the studio today.  I added a rhythm part to "I've Been All Around the This World" and Ed added a rhythm mandolin part to it.  We also cleaned up some of the  solos, cut a little off the intro to "Music Man" and took the loud claps out "Love".  It was a good session.  Thanks Jim!

later NorthStar @ Finnegan's Wake - There wasn't a big crowd, but we sure had fun!  It's good to play with my brother Ed.  We were also visited by some friends of ours, Stacey, Woody and Curtis (Good Wood).  They had just finished at Oasis.  Thanks Courtney and staff.  Looking forward to tomorrow.

Saturday, 5/7 JUST DAVE @ Finnegan's Wake - Everyone said it was going to be slow this week.  I guess I'm starting to believe them.  Still had a good time, met some new friends.  Looking forward to tomorrow.  Thanks Andrew and staff!

Sunday, 5/8 JUST DAVE @ Finnegan's Wake - The time change did good.  I had a nice crowd.  thanks for showing up everyone.  Thanks Jim for helping me load out.  Thanks Courtney, Derrick and staff.  It's been a great weekend!

It was great to see Pat Waylon up and about.  So sorry for the loss of my friends Nigel and Curtis.  Happy Jim Dunaway is getting out of rehab.  Enjoyed everything about this week, played 2 new originals "Evil People and "The Ice is Broken".  Thanks again everyone for letting me live my dream.  Keepin' It Real - David

see you down the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wednesday, 4/27 "JUST DAVE" @ Capt. Stan's - Ed was still up in Virginia so I did this gig solo.  It was fun, but I missed Ed though.  We'll be playing at the Gamble Fest on Sunday, hope to see everyone there.

Thursday, 4/28 "JUST DAVE" @ The Corner Bar - It was great to be back in town at The Corner Bar and playing for my friends.  I heard Darryl Wise played in my place last week, I'd have loved to see him!  It's going to be a busy week!  I'm ready!  Thanks Mike, Nick and staff!

Friday, 4/29 "JUST DAVE" @ SeaJay's - Turned out to be a great night!  The "no-see'ems" were out a little bit.  I was thinking that my big yelllow fan is going to come in handy for a couple of reasons as summer approaches.  Thanks Tommy and staff!

Saturday, 4/30 AM "JUST DAVE" @ The Gamble Rogers Folk Festival - I did a solo show on the Arrivas Stage.  I was a little tired but after the first song "Upside Down", I found my groove.  I had a great time.  Thanks Tommy for the sound.  The most people I've ever played for before at the festival.

PM "JUST DAVE" @ SeaJay's - Got setup and got going again.  It was a nice crowd, met a lot of new folks.  Really enjoyed myself.  Thanks Tommy and staff!  After loading out, I thought I would go hear my partner Ed (Wharfratz) at Latitudes, but changed my mind (I'm glad).  It's going to be another early show tomorrow.

Sunday, 5/1 AM "NORTHSTAR @ The Gamble Rogers Folk Festival - NorthStar was the first act on the Demesa Stage.  The sound system was being run by Jim Stafford and partners.  There wasn't as many people for our show as I had the day before, but it was still a blast.  Jim, Gary and Tom, that was the best system I've played through that I can ever remember in all my years.  Great job guys!  Great job Ed!  Saw some great ole friends (musicians).  Hope to be a part of this event next year.  Thanks Bob Patterson.

PM "JUST DAVE" @ Zachry's - I got back to Georgia about 4pm after leaving the Gamble Fest and going to visit Jim Dunaway at the rehab center.  I set up and had a good night, not real crowded but the owners and a few folks had a good time I hope.  I like this place!  Thanks Barbara, DJ and staff!

Monday 5/2 "JUST DAVE" at doctor's appointment - My yearly physical produced a clean bill of health.  Still need to lose weight, but my blood pressure has gone down since the end of September. The change saved my life!

Had a busy long week, but what a blast!  Maybe I'll do something like this again in the future. I think we have a pretty good run coming up in Virginia sometime soon.  I made a lot of new friends this week.  I got to touch bases with a lot of musician friends I haven't seen in awhile.  Taking a few needed days off. I will be back at it Thursday.  Thanks for letting me live my dream.  "Keepin' It Real -David

see you down the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tuesday, April 26, 2011

Wednesday 4/20,  NorthStar @ Zachry's - Had a terrific crowd!  A lot of new faces and a lot of faces I haven't seen for years.  It was such a great night my mind didn't even wander to the long overnight drive to Virginia that lay ahead.

Thursday 4/21, We arrived at the Northern Neck about 9:30 AM.  It was a good ride.  Ed and Jay did the driving. jay most of it!

Friday and Saturday 4/22 and 4/23, The Big Lonesome Weekend @ Coles Point Tavern - The Big Lonesome Weekend included NorthStar (featuring Dave Besley and Ed Pickett with special guest Frankie Urzetta), The Big Lonesome  Band (Gregg Chirico, Wayne Johnston, Frankie Urzetta, Robin Taylor, Eddie Pickett and Dave Besley) and Mr. Natural (Gregg Chirico, Robin Taylor, and Bill Box). What a great two nights.  I am so proud of everyone in  The Big Lonesome show.  This has been one of the best road trips I've taken.  Thanks Randy, Scott, Carla and staff!  You guys are really special.  Good job Matt and Andy.  Photos to follow.

Sunday 4/24,  The Big Lonesome Show @AC's - We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day.  The crowd was awesome.  It was really good to see Jay and Annie and family(Backdraft).  Just can't say enough about these guys I've been performing with all weekend.  It's an honor and a privilege.  Thanks to our families that came along and it was great meeting Robin and Carla's family.  Nice, nice people.

Monday 4/25 Headed home - Thanks Jay for making the drive as usual.  Thanks Janis and Bill for taking care of things back home while we were away (cats and plants).  We can't thank you enough.

I want to thank Randy and Scott for supporting my decision to bring The Big Lonesome up to Virginia.  I hope we have many more years of shows as we've had friendship.  I can't thank you enough Randy Watts for starting this whole thing!

Also I'd like to thank C and L Automotive, Shane and Karen of Finnegan's Wake and Gregg Chirico for providing rehearsal and live performance venues to get us ready for the great weekend we just had!

4/11 The Big Lonesome rehearsal @ C & L Auto - Had our last rehearsal before our Virginia show.  We have the show at Finnegan's Wake on Wednesday, then the next time we're together is Friday in Virginia.  I can't wait.  I am really proud to be sharing the stage with these great musicians.

4/12 "Just Dave" @ Harry's - It's a little different schedule but I had a blast.  These are great people and this has turned out to be a great gig.  Thanks Rob.

4/17 "Just Dave" @ Finnegan's Wake - Stopped a little early, there was some kind of emergency.  Some friends stopped by while I was packing out.  Thanks for coming down.  I'll be back in two weeks (May 8th).  Check out Hugo Duarte on Easter Sunday here at Finnegan's Wake, a friend of ours (HugoDuarte.com, hillbillybeach.com).

4/18 "The Hacker's @ Hurricane Patty's - I had a great time.  Everyone kicked butt.  Good job!  Wayne Johnston (The Big Lonesome) sat in and played his heart out.  Look for the Hacker's to be back on schedule next month (the last Monday of the month 5/30).  I can't wait.

Things are busy.  I've made a bunch of new friends and it's always great seeing my old friends.  Once again, don't forget to check out our friend Hugo Duarte at Finnegan's Wake Easter Sunday afternoon.  Thanks again for letting me live my dream, everybody.  "Keepin' It Real" - David

Friday, April 15, 2011

Monday, 4/4 - Wayne Johnston and I worked together today.  Started on two new original songs for The Big Lonesome.  We also worked on "Until We Meet Again" one of his tunes he wants Frankie to sing.  We are trying to get together at least once a week to write for The Big Lonesome.

Wednesday, 4/6 - NorthStar @ The World Famous Oasis - They've made some changes here.  They've changed the area where we setup.  The PA wasn't set up, there wasn't light, speakers were off in another room, in spite of all that, it turned out to be a good show.  Thanks Ed, it would have been a nightmare with anyone but you.

Thursday, 4/7 (AM) Eclipse - We're singing "Been All Around the World".

(PM) Just Dave @ The Corner Bar - Started out slow, but turned out pretty good.  I think this gig is coming around.  Thanks for sitting in Kruz.  Tried some new originals "Hopeless Romantic, "What Would You Do" and "Is This Love?"  Can't wait to complete my next CD.

Friday, 4/8 Had lunch with Shane at Kings Bistro, Mike the chef really took care of us.  You have to check this place out!

Just Dave @ Zaharias - What a great place!  I had a blast.  Angelica and staff were super great!  I would like to thank everyone who showed up.  What a night! Scroll down to previous post to see photos.

Wednesday, April 6, 2011

Monday, 3/28 - Had a great Hacker's show (4hrs).  Everyone played their hearts out.  We had Wayne Johnston (The Big Lonesome) join us.  He kicked butt.  We'd like to remind everyone that our next Hacker's gig is April 18th (a week earlier than usual).  Sorry for the inconvenience.  We'll be back on track in May.

Wednesday, 3/30 - "JUST DAVE" @ The World Famous Oasis, This is a tough solo or duo gig.  The 44 TV's and the ambient sounds try to take away from the intimacy of an acoustic show.  I miss everyone at The World Famous Oasis and to my disbelief the shows (single or duo) have been going pretty good.  It just goes to show you, right when you think you know everything, you learn something new.  Thanks Splash and crew you guys were great!

Thursday, 3/31 - Eclipse - We're mixing now "Hopeless Romantic" a couple of guitar parts I have to put on, and background vocals.  I think I  am close or will be close to a year since my last release.  That was the plan.

PM - "JUST DAVE" @ The Corner Bar - Had fun!  Kruz sounded good.  The place is coming around. Thanks Mike and crew, you are doing a great job!

Friday, 4/1 - "JUST DAVE" @ Seajay's, Jekyll Island, GA - Set up outside on the deck.  It's always fun coming back to the island.  Made some new friends, had a blast!  Thanks Tommy and crew!

Saturday, 4/2 - "JUST DAVE" @ Latitude 31, Jekyll Island, GA - An afternoon gig 12-3pm.  The place was packed.  I was pleasantly surprised.  I had stopped down to hear the Wharfratz after my gig at Seajay's last night.  It was slammed then too!  The Ratz sounded real good.  It's great to see a band having fun.  That's what it's all about!  Thanks Teresa and crew!

Saturday, 4/2 - "JUST DAVE" @ SeaJay's - Another great night.  I was inside.  It was the first place vacant when I came to set up.  I was dog tired, but the crowd brought me around.  This has been a great weekend.  I introduced my music to a lot of new folks.  Once again. a great job Tommy and staff.  Also thanks Mike (Coast Guard for closing the show),  Good job!

I'll be booking my flight to Rhode Island this week.  I'm a featured writer at a show there.  Thanks Marc, you're the man!  The Big Lonesome is going to be headed up the trail to Virginia this month.  Don't forget about Finnegan's Wake, April 13th, 8-11pm.  Just another reminder that the Hacker's will be a week early this month, April 18th, 6pm at Hurricane Patty's. I will remind the rest of the guys to get the word out.  I'm doing a gig with Ed (NorthStar) at The Oasis this week.  I can't wait, we've been crossing paths on the road, but haven't had a chance to play together.  Thanks for letting me live my dream!  Keepin' It Real - David

see you down the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
